Does removing dispute verbiage impact credit scores?

Removing dispute verbiage from items on a consumer credit file always has the possibility of impacting credit scores. Because that impact is dictated by each file’s overall content how much impact, if any, is difficult to predict.

When reviewing a file with dispute verbiage consider the file as a whole. If dispute verbiage is removed from the only negative entry on a file, keep in mind that the score after dispute removal may introduce an adverse item to an otherwise perfect file. Consider the age of the item. Recent derogatory information will likely have a harsher impact than old information unless other (non-disputed) negative entries from the same date are present.

If the item has perfect history, consider other factors such as the type of account. Is it a credit card account with a high balance? Removing dispute verbiage from a credit card debt can cause a revolving balance proportion issue and negatively impact the score. On the other hand, removing dispute verbiage from a credit card with a low balance, a large amount of available credit, and perfect history, may cause a score to increase.

Let us review the file for you. While we cannot guarantee that dispute removal will or will not change a score, our Score Express representatives can review your files, let you know which bureaus will be affected, and determine if the item(s) in question will potentially have a negative impact.

Please note: Credit Technologies, Inc. makes no claim that dispute removal will or will not cause a change in scores to any file. The impact of dispute verbiage on scores may be dictated by factors such as compliance codes, the age of items in dispute, and overall information contained on a file. Our Score Express team members can advise you that removing dispute verbiage may affect scores negatively or positively; however, the number of points gained or lost (if any) cannot be calculated prior to removing dispute verbiage.
